Introduction

1st Debate on Net

We organized with care, fear of hidden perils, using two Polycom VC terminals for debate, result is acceptable.

2nd Debate on Net

We introduced the MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) technology in the competition setup to handle multiple points debate via internet. However, delay could up to 10 seconds in worst case situation.

3rd Debate on Net

China Education and Research Network make the arrangement for the first time Shanghai – Hong Kong inter-city Debate on Net

4th Debate on Net

Project vchina of Quality Education Fund, sponsored us by providing large amount of money and resources. The problem of audio delay is solved. It attracted more than 28 schools to participate.

5th Debate on Net

We adopted software version of Video Conference program to replace the hardware of Polycom Video equipment. The transmission of Audio and Video is smooth and quality acceptable. It is more flexible in operation. With the support of Beijing China Education and Research Network, participated team has increased to 36.

6th Debate on Net

1st ever Primary school section in Putonghua Debate on Net, most of the participated teams held the debate at their own school, part of the adjudications were supported by Shanghai teachers. Over eighty teams participated in last year debate.

7th Debate on Net

Preparation work in still in progress, details will be announced on 1st November 2007.

Pre-contest School Introduction

To let audiences and opposite teams have a betters understanding of both schools, each team will have one minute to introduce their schoolo. The performance of this “Pre-contest School Introduction” session will not be considered in the debate marking scheme.

To encourage schools to utilize the video conferencing platform, all participated school must take care of the broadband and technical setup. Working Committee will set up workshop for all schools and technical support for the contest.

Scenario 1

For participated school to setup “Distance Classroom”, Working Committee will provide support, advice and video conference platform free of charge.

Scenario 2

In case schools do not have the necessary facilities, Working Committee will help school to setup “Distance Classroom” by lending the equipment.

Scenario 3

In case the mentioned efforts cannot setup “Distance Classroom” at the Control Centre.

Motion and standpoint to be announced one week before the contest, standpoint is determined by the closing figure of Hang Seng Index on the day one week before the contest.
